style="text-align: left;">Occupying one of the busiest corners in the historic Theatre Row section of the Granville entertainment district, Cinema Public House is the newest addition to the Donnelly Pub Group. A high-ceilinged foyer leads two ways – circle-cutout double doors lead to the larger restaurant & lounge side while leather-covered paneling conceals the snaking bench and ottomans of the bar area. The rooms, separated late-night by a black velvet curtain, are of a modern design, with subtle hints to the nostalgia of the Theatre Row halcyon days. A large herringbone pattern tile spans the floor, leading to walls finished with black stained and brushed granite oak. ‘Octopus’ chandeliers by De La Espada light seafoam green chairs of the main dining area, while the bar uses a mirrored drop ceiling and re-purposed desk lamps to achieve the cool, low-light atmosphere that Donnelly Pubs are known for. The lounge is open from 11am seven days a week, closing at 1am Sunday to Thursday, and 2am Friday and Saturday, while the bar side will be open from 11am – 3am seven nights a week.

148 seat venue: 20 seat patio on the Granville strip, 92 seat lounge area and 50 seat bar – the vibe is casual, edgy, gritty and punk. The space is nice enough for a first date, and yet casual enough for to grab a beer with teammates after playing hockey. Featuring indie electro rock music, Cinema will have DJ’s on Fridays and Saturdays. Cinema is a welcome addition to the vibrant Granville strip and popular entertainment district. This is DHM Founder and President Jeff Donnelly’s third venue in the 900 block of Granville Street in downtown, along with the popular cocktail lounge the Granville Room and celebrity favourite Republic nightclub.

The menu boasts innovative pub food – simple, consistent and clean, utilizing fresh local ingredients. The vibe is progressive, casual and cool.

With the newly appointed Executive Chef Michael Knowlson (London born, previously of Bacchus, Sequoia Grill) at the helm, Donnelly Pubs will be revamping all of their menus to offer more inventive and high quality pub fare, utilizing fresh, local and seasonal ingredients.

The Donnelly Pub Group and the Granville Room are members of the Vancouver Aquarium Ocean Wise Program, which encourages and promotes sustainable seafood options on restaurant menus, and use of regional in-season food products where possible.

By joining the Green Table Network, all DHM venues have implemented initiatives to reduce waste, to conserve water and energy, and to reduce pollutants. The Green Table programs include recycling of plastic, glass and paper products; installing energy efficient thermostats, lighting and timers; use of biodegradable chemicals and cleaning products; phasing out plastic materials and replacing them with recyclable materials; and increased staff awareness and training.

<a

Available January 1st until the end of the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, each cocktail is inspired by a great Canadian Olympic moment and showcases Canadian liquor and ingredients. Trevor created five cocktails in honour of the five Olympic rings, which sell for $9 each.<span

Lord of the Oval is named for Gaetan Boucher’s three medals in long-track speed skating at 1984’s Sarajevo games, and marries Wiser’s deluxe, muddled red grapes, peach bitters, ginger ale and peach juice. The Gold, Silver and Greene, inspired by Nancy Greene’s 1968 double medal performance in Grenoble, melds Victoria gin, Barnston Island basil, simple syrup, grapefruit juice and orange-flower water. The Double Lucky Loonie, named for the men’s and women’s hockey teams (which both took home gold from the 2002 games in Salt Lake City), blends Canadian Club Premium Whiskey, maple syrup, Whistler Black Tusk Ale and Sortilege Canadian Whiskey & Maple Liqueur. The Golden Redemption, named for Jamie Salé and David Pelletier’s near miss of figure skating gold at the 2002 Salt Lake City games, marries Alberta Premium Rye with applesauce, fresh lemon juice and a dash of Fee Brothers’ rhubarb bitters.

An oasis of good taste and casual elegance in the Entertainment District, the Granville Room is Vancouver’s true speakeasy: little talked about and much loved. Busy with metropolitan locals and a chic pre-club and post-theatre crowd, the Granville Room focuses on excellent service, fine, quality craft cocktails and a boutique dining menu. The richly dark interior is accented by large mirrors, cozy seating and a lavish bar. The Granville Room is located 957 Granville Street in Vancouver, BC (604-633-0056) and is open daily from 10 pm-2 am.

About DHM

--------- click to enlarge

(Vancouver, BC) The Granville Room Kitchen & Cocktail Bar kicks off summer with the launch of the luxe 957 cocktail, created by resident bar star Trevor Kallies.

Crafted in three parts, the ultra-chic 957 blends Hennessy XO and Belvedere vodka and is topped with an aromatic vanilla foam. Adding further personality, the cocktail is crowned with a ‘GR’ monogram in the Granville Room’s trajan typeface, which is achieved by spritzing whiskey-barrel aged cocktail bitters through a stencil onto the foam. This elegant cocktail has caused quite a stir for Granville Room patrons shelling out $45 to sip on this luscious concoction.

Named after the Granville Room’s address on bustling Granville Street, the 957 was inspired by master mixologist Kallies’ current love affair with cognacs. The Hennessy XO’s rich, spicy notes and natural vanilla flavours are balanced by the vanilla liqueur in the foam and the hints of oak in the Belvedere vodka; the aromatic bitters compliment the foam’s sweetness. Rounding out the 957 experience is a creamy mouthfeel and luxurious texture.

The 957 is among a bevy of new flavours coming to the Granville Room and DHM Bars this spring and summer, thanks to Kallies, who spearheads the company’s cocktail development program and is regarded as one of the city’s finest bartenders. The new summer menus emphasize contemporary cocktails brimming with refreshing, fruity flavours, including new ingredients such as rose, orange & kiwi syrup, cinnamon sticks, Bulleit bourbon, apple twist vodka and cherry brandy. Meanwhile the classic cocktails adhere to the original recipes that have long made them favourites.

An oasis of good taste and casual elegance in the Entertainment District, the Granville Room may just be the least talked about place that everybody loves.
