Vancouver, BC | Available now, Burnaby’s Hart House at Deer Lake offers guests an exciting new summer menu. The menu features homegrown produce from the garden, seafood from local waters, and in-house aged AAA beef. Guests will be pleased to learn that Hart House has also reduced its menu prices. “With the implementation of the HST, we really wanted guests to feel comfortable going out and spending what they were accustomed to before the harmonized tax came into effect. In fact, we’ve decreased the average cost of the menu by about ten percent,” says General Manager, Edwyn Kumar. “The new menu pricing allows us to deliver the same quality ingredients and service, while providing our guests a better value.”

With its elegant grounds, flower gardens, and patio overlooking tranquil Deer Lake, Hart House is always a summer favourite. Executive Chef Kris Kabush has taken full advantage of the season to develop a menu that offers the best in fresh local fare. It includes the new selections such as:

Vancouver, BC | Burnaby’s Hart House Restaurant will be serving up top-quality local seafood for its new Ocean Fest dinner special. Until Sunday, April 25 2010, guests at the landmark heritage house restaurant can enjoy a 3-course menu featuring fresh Salt Spring Island mussels and first-of-the-season Pacific Halibut for just $38.

A love of seafood comes naturally to Executive Chef Kris Kabush, who was born and raised in Surrey, BC. He chose to make cooking his career at the tender age of sixteen. Apprenticeships at the Wedgewood and the Four Seasons Hotel gave him practical experience that complemented the classroom knowledge he gained in Vancouver Community College’s Red Seal culinary program. Before joining the team at Hart House, he worked at Cioppino’s, the Four Seasons, the Wedgewood, and Lumière. Kris took special pleasure in designing the Ocean Fest menu, as it gave him a chance to capitalize on the bounty of fresh seafood that’s available locally.

Guests will enjoy the Ocean Fest dinner special in the elegant surroundings of Hart House’s dining room, where friendly staff are always happy to suggest wine pairings for any dish.

Burnaby, BC | The Hart House is pleased to announce that Kris Kabush will be the restaurant’s new Executive Chef. A homegrown talent, Kris brings both enthusiasm and a wealth of experience to his new role.

Hart House is known for fresh and innovative Pacific Northwest cuisine, served in the casual elegance of its heritage house dining room. As Executive Chef Kris will be a great asset to the restaurant. He has a passion for creating inspiring cuisine and an unrivalled commitment to excellence. Born and raised in locally, he developed a serious interest in the culinary arts at 16.  Before he had finished high school he had already secured a position at Bacchus in Vancouver’s Wedgewood Hotel. Upon graduation he challenged the first-year exam and went straight into the second year of Vancouver Community College’s Red Seal Apprenticeship program.  Kris had completed his apprenticeship 18 months later.

Kris has worked at a number of Vancouver landmarks that share enviable reputations, including The Four Seasons Hotel, Lumière, the Delta Vancouver Suites Hotel, and Cioppino’s. He brought this experience, along with an enthusiasm for trying new things, to Hart House when he joined the staff as a sous chef in fall of 2008. He says that having access to Hart House’s on-site garden and working with a team of creative staff bring an element of play to his work. Hart House guests can look forward to outstanding Pacific Northwest cuisine as Kris takes the helm.
