Vancouver, BC | Adding to their growing list of accolades, BETA5 has been named as one of North America’s Top 10 chocolatiers in the December issue of the prestigious Dessert Professional magazine, a highly respected industry publication that annually honours ten North American-based chocolatiers whose craft exemplifies the use of chocolate, and whose contributions have elevated the chocolate industry. BETA5 is the only Canadian chocolatier to make the list.
Vancouver’s BETA5 was also recently recognized with silver in the World Finals at the prestigious International Chocolate Awards. Held in London in October, the awards were judged by an international panel of chocolate experts, food journalists and pastry chefs, with competitive entries from around the globe. The International Chocolate Awards recognized BETA5’s Imperial Stout flavour with the silver award for filled milk chocolates. Imperial Stout chocolates are available alongside national award winners Olive Oil, Banana and Crispy Praline. These and the rest of the full line-up of signature chocolates are available this holiday season at the BETA5 workshop in Vancouver or online.
In addition to chocolates, BETA5 also makes award-winning marmalades. Taking the silver and bronze at the 2012 International Marmalade Awards, the preserves are brightly flavoured and delicately set. Made with traditional techniques, and using sustainably farmed California citrus, these marmalades are perfect with a fresh BETA5 croissant. Marmalades come in flavours like Bergamot, Yuzu, Pink Lemon and the award-winning Rangpur Lime and Seville Orange. Read more

French (Naturally) Scientists Map Genome Of Good Chocolate
December 29, 2010
A team of French scientists has cracked the genetic code of Theobroma cacao. Other cacao varieties of tree have had their genomes decoded, but Theobroma is the first from the top drawer. Thus, we can soon expect the manufacture of bio-engineered and disease-resistant cacao that will end up quite probably producing sublime chocolate.
Lesson: if you’re into science, move to France.
