DINER: Josh Pape And James Iranzad To Open 115 Seat Restaurant On Hastings

by Andrew Morrison | Good news, gluttony fans. Local restaurateurs James Iranzad (Abigail’s Party, Cartel) and Josh Pape (former Bartender of the Year, co-owner of The Diamond) have picked up the voluminous, 2,400 sqft space at 120 Hastings across from the Woodwards complex with plans for turning it into a new restaurant and bar by February 2012. They’ve only just signed the lease on the newly renovated (read: empty) location, but trades have nevertheless made their assessments and the keys are in hand. The board is set. The pieces are moving. I can’t wait for this one. Read more

The GOODS from Abigail’s Party

Vancouver, BC | In celebration of Vancouver Craft Beer Week this week, Abigail’s Party is tapping two very limited release casks from local beer magicians R & B Brewing.

Tuesday (tomorrow) we tap a cask of Raspberry Sun God Hefeweizen. Traditional German yeast gives this beer its slightly cloudy appearance, and a very generous amount of raspberries creates it its off-pink colour. On the palate are subtle wheat and strong raspberry notes, resulting in a seriously sessionable & refreshing beer.

This Thursday we tap a cask of Wild Turkey Oak Stout – actually aged with Wild Turkey bourbon-soaked oak. The beer is deep black in colour with notes of vanilla & bourbon on the nose. On the palate, it’s creamy and smooth with a hint of smoke and roasted coffee. This is unbelievably good beer. Read more

Vancouver, BC | Next in our monthly cask ale line-up is R & B Brewing. That’s this Tuesday, March 8th. From the firkin will flow the ESB: East. Side. Bitter. It’s not your typical English ‘Extra Special Bitter’, as R & B uses a combination of English and local malts to create the beer’s subtle, malty canvas wherein hops are the main attraction. Northwest hops (and lots of them) are added to the kettle as well as a ridiculous amount added post-fermentation to give it its unique aroma and crisp, refreshing finish. Its almost too easy to drink, and pairs just fine with a pot of deep-fried Iranian pickles! And who doesn’t love an Iranian pickle? Read more

Vancouver, BC | Abigail’s Party hosts the second of a series of monthly cask ale nights leading up to Vancouver Craft Beer Week this Tuesday, February 8th. A cask of one of our favourite local beers – Red Racer Pale Ale – will get tapped by Mike Tod of Central City at 6pm. Brewed with Simcoe hops, it’s delicious, it’s what pale ale should taste like, and it’s a session beer. Chef Cameron’s still recovering from Dine Out delirium but there’s talk of a roasted bone-in Sloping Hills pork chop, with polenta and bacon-braised savoy cabbage as a dinner pairing. And if it’s a different sort of pairing you’re looking for, we’ve got some new bourbon and rye on the bar too. Drop in, or call us at 604-739-4677 or visit www.abigailsparty.ca to book a table or a seat at the bar. Dates and brewer details after the jump… Read more

News from Scout supporters Abigail’s Party

Vancouver, BC | Abigail’s Party kicks off the first of a series of monthly cask nights this Tuesday, January 11th. A cask of Red Truck Ale will get tapped by Sam Payne and Brewmaster Dave Varga at 6pm, and they tell us it’s pretty aggressively flavoured with Cascade hops, bringing a slightly sweet grapefruit character from the lightly carbonated amber ale. Chef Cameron is working away on what promises to be cracking Cottage Pie should you like to stay for dinner. More details below… Read more
