Holiday Tablescape Decorating Tips from Culinary Capers

The GOODS from Culinary Capers

Vancouver, BC | With the arrival of the season, and holiday entertaining in full swing, it’s time to talk tablescapes. While the food and drink selection are of great importance, when your guests sit down to eat, a festive table can set the mood for the dinner and help create a magical setting. To help you create a flawless festive table, Culinary Capers shares their inspirations.

Consider New Colour Combinations

Even though many think of the holidays in terms of traditional red and green, don’t be constrained by a two-tone color palette! Think “outside the box” with new color combos to create a fresh look. Navy, gold and white create a striking combination – add a dash of red for punch. One of the best ways to bring color to the design is with the settings and table centre, source striking complimentary pieces that add pop.

Incorporate Organic Elements

Head to your backyard or neighborhood to search for greenery and organic elements. Local florists and nurseries are also well stocked with winter greenery. Consider using elements other than flowers, such as ferns, or pine. And they don’t always have to be in an arrangement. Use winter greens as a table runner or to adorn plates, tuck sprigs into flatware, or nestle dried floral branches in the centrepiece.

Rent Fine China

The fancy china often appears for holiday entertaining. But what if you don’t have fine china, or enough place settings period? The solution is to rent. Rentals are affordable and offer the freedom to design a fresh new look. We rented, plates, chargers, flatware and glassware from Citrine Curation in Vancouver. Their staff are up to speed on the latest trends in luxury tableware and provide helpful advice.

Play with Textures

A luscious holiday table is created in layers, and the more textures you bring to the table, the better.

Merry + Bright

Choose your lighting with care. A striking candelabra is a great focal point – the modern one featured is from CB2 and a lovely contrast to the heritage features of the room.

Incorporate Food for a Gourmet Touch

For this table, we chose a wreath made of oregano to scent the room from Our Little Flower Company on Granville Island. Whole artichokes were incorporated to accompany the greenery in the table runner. Hand decorated Christmas cookies from our pastry kitchen act as plate adornments (Santa won’t miss a few).

Create a Custom Menu to Display

Make your guests feel like they’re at a five-star restaurant by typing and printing the menu for display.

Have your Bar Cart do Double Duty

The bar cart can make for a dramatic eye-catching element if you add holiday décor and a striking punchbowl. This gorgeous cut glass punch bowl was rented from Pedersens Event Rentals.
