Axe-Wielding Vikings Wanted For Mid-Winter Revelry at Strange Fellows Brewing

The GOODS from Strange Fellows Brewing

Vancouver, BC |On January 26 th grab some mates, don your best plaid* and make haste to Strange Fellows Brewing to celebrate midwinter in savage Viking style.

Inspired by Up Helly Aa – the pagan fire festival that symbolizes the rebirth of the sun – we’ll host an Axe-throwing Competition and send New Year wishes to Valhalla on the smoke of our flaming Viking Longship. A cask of Blackmail Northwest Stout will be tapped to toast our fellows “Drink hail! I drink and good luck be to you!”

January 26th | 7-10pm

Axe-throwing instruction provided by the burly Axewood Crew Early bird Tickets (available on-line Jan 12th – 18th) $17.50 – includes a beer and axe-throwing. Tickets $20 after January 18th

*a beer on the house will be given to those wearing kilts!

Celebrating the end of Yuletide feasting, Up Helly Aa is the Shetland Island’s annual fire festival that also symbolizes the rebirth of the sun. A replica Viking Longship is dragged through the streets of the village to a hilltop where it is ceremoniously torched, then followed by uproarious celebration until the wee hours. What else is there to do in the bleak of winter on a tiny Northern island?

Strange Fellows is an East Vancouver craft brewery inspired by tradition and creativity that celebrates the strange and extraordinary. We invite you to celebrate community with us each month as we observe a different Strange Day, inspired by obscure superstitions and folklore from around the world.
