Patricia Piccinini’s ‘Curious Imaginings’ Exhibition Set For Historic Patricia Hotel

The GOODS from The Patricia Hotel

Vancouver, BC | In what is expected to become one of North America’s most talked-about art events of the year, globally renowned Melbourne artist Patricia Piccinini’s Curious Imaginings immersive sculpture experience will exhibit in Vancouver this September as part of the 2018-2020 Vancouver Biennale. For the first time in the Biennale’s fifteen years of creating transformative experiences through public art, and in keeping with the 2018 – 2020 theme of re-IMAGE-n, the exhibition will take over an interior space in the historic Patricia Hotel.

The hyperrealist “world of oddly captivating, somewhat grotesque, human-animal hybrid creatures” will be the artist’s first exhibition in a non-museum setting, transforming a wing of the 105-year-old Patricia Hotel. Situated in Vancouver’s oldest and continually changing neighbourhood of Strathcona, Piccinini’s immersive sculpture experience will “challenge us to explore the social impacts of emerging biotechnology and our ethical limits in an age where genetic engineering and digital technologies are already pushing the boundaries of humanity.” The intimate hotel setting for Curious Imaginings will empower visitors to personally consider questions posed by the exhibition, including the promises and consequences of genetic research and human interference.

Limited Early Bird Price tickets are available from August 16 to September 13 at the reduced rate of $14 for adults, $11 for students and seniors, and $35 for a family of four (plus fees) at www.imcurious.ca.
