Joy Road’s 2018 Alfresco Vineyard Dinner Tickets Now on Sale

The GOODS from Joy Road Catering

Penticton, BC | As we anticipate green growth and sunny warmth here in the Okanagan we love the idea that you too, wherever you reside, might view this April newsletter as a harbinger of wonderful out-of-doors Okanagan feasting to come. Our chives are surging out of the ground, and crocuses have poked up their sunny little faces – a promise that some of our favourite foods are on the way! Wild clay bluff asparagus, watercress from winding streams, and barbed but nutrient-laden nettle tops lead the way to rhubarb – which means (you’ve got it) galettes! The first Penticton Farmers’ Market of the season falls on Saturday, April 21st so come enjoy our orchards in bloom and stock up for Sunday’s April 22nd celebration of Earth Day!

We’ve spring cleaned our website and are proud to announce a tempting line up of 2018 dinner dates! We’re busy planning menus for some amazing winery events this season, so do check out our EVENTS page and mark your calendars. Follow us up and down the Valley as we set tables in a multitude of splendidly pastoral sites. For all you early birds, reservations are now available for our Alfresco Vineyard Dinners held at Gods’ Mountain Estate.

Now a little taste of what’s to come!

May 5th we will perch our team in the spectacular cave at the top of Pentâge Winery for Sip & Savour, an afternoon of terroir-driven wine and food pairing in the cellar. Come enjoy the panoramic views of Skaha Lake and check out Paul and Julie’s impressive rectangular wine tanks custom made in Croatia. Tickets are $50.40 and can be purchased at www.pentagewinery.com.

Next you will find us preparing a multi-course wine-inspired dinner at Painted Rock Vineyard on May 12th. Let’s celebrate the beauty of spring at their gorgeous winery where Lauren Skinner will be on hand to discuss the latest vintages and her family’s vision for their estate. Tickets are $120 available for purchase here. Transportation is also available starting from $20 from Top Cat Tours – to reserve a shuttle contact Myles directly at info [at] topcattours.com.

Both Pentâge and Painted Rock Wineries have been welcoming team Joy Road since our inception and we remain so grateful to have such wonderful venues to showcase Okanagan bounty.

To catch you up with the remainder of our winter, Dana was fortunate to spend the month of January in Tamil Nadu, India consulting for a bakery and restaurant called Pumpkin Tales in the bustling city of Chennai. She’s brought back spices from Kerala to explore with you and can’t wait to share her experiences and new flavours. Follow her adventures here.

In another recent highlight for Dana, she was most honoured to represent British Columbia tourism in Mexico City in a media blitz for Destination BC. She was nervous but thankful to collaborate with Chef Oswaldo Oliva, who spent eight years at the famed three Michelin-starred restaurant Mugaritz in San Sebastian and now has his own incredible restaurant, Lorea. Do treat yourself if you visit Mexico City and send a hello from Joy Road! Check out the menu from our sensational dinner on our Facebook page. It was such a treat to tour the big hectic markets there, learn to prepare new ingredients and to share how much we love where we live and cook.

Lastly, we are thrilled to welcome back some of our incredibly talented alumni, also looking forward to introducing some wonderful new recruits joining team JRC. We’re dusting away the cobwebs of winter and earnestly await welcoming you to the table.

Happy Spring and see you soon!
