Vancouver Chef Pino Posteraro Named Knight of the Order of the Star of Italy

The GOODS from Cioppino’s

Vancouver, BC | Vancouver’s award-winning chef Giuseppe “Pino” Posteraro has been named a Knight of the Order of the Star of Italy, an award designated by Italian President Sergio Mattarella which recognizes individuals who promote Italian prestige and good relations internationally. Posteraro has owned and operated Cioppino’s in Yaletown since 1999 and has been locally recognized as one of Vancouver’s best chefs. He is the first chef in Canada to receive this award.

Posteraro’s philosophy is to pair traditional ingredients and recipes with modern technique to serve Italian food that is true to its roots, while keeping seasonal and local influences in mind. At Cioppino’s, he is in the kitchen each night to prepare dishes and execute dinner service. Beyond his work in his own restaurant, Posteraro aims to educate chefs across Canada in Italian culinary technique and history. “I never thought I’d receive this award for doing what I do every day. At the end of the day we are cooks, but if we promote Italian technique and traditions in Canada, it’s an accomplishment”, says Posteraro.

“For more than 30 years, my motivation has been to promote Italian culture to the local community, introducing Italian gastronomy to a new generation of Canadians”. Posteraro was invested as a knight by Italian General Consul, Massimiliano Iacchini, in a private ceremony held in Vancouver on February 7, 2018.

Cioppino’s is located in Vancouver’s Yaletown neighbourhood, and is open Tuesday-Saturday for dinner. Boasting an open show kitchen, guests in the full-service dining room are able to watch Posteraro and his chefs at work. The restaurant also has many private dining rooms, and a wine list curated by Posteraro that is host to thousands of bottles, with many rare and difficult to find vintages.
