La Taqueria Opens New Location on Main Street

The GOODS from La Taqueria

Vancouver, BC | La Taqueria has launched its sixth B.C. location at 2521 Main Street. A grand opening is slated for February 27.

Situated in Vancouver’s vibrant Mount Pleasant neighbourhood, the launch of the 1,100-square-foot space will introduce a new initiative and menu item to the beloved pinche taco shop: a seasonal beer-and-cocktail program and home-style nachos.

The bar program will see a rotating selection of regionally produced beers on tap, including those from 33 Acres Brewing Company, Hoyne Brewing Co., and Postmark Brewing. Co-owner Marcelo Ramirez is working closely with local mixologists to develop a well-edited cocktail list that emphasizes tequila, mezcal, and sake: three spirits that the Guadalajara native believes pairs exceptionally well with La Taqueria’s authentic Mexican fare.

La Taqueria’s nachos, meanwhile, will contain organic corn tortilla chips, Guadalajara-sourced cheese, and toppings such as housemade jalapeño pickles and onions. In addition to the beer-and-cocktail program and the original menu of street-style tacos and burritos, which will be offered during La Taqueria Main’s extended hours, this sharable dish will help establish the location as a neighbourhood hangout and dining destination.

Both the bar-and-cocktail program and nachos will debut at La Taqueria Main before making their way to the Mexican joint’s five existing outposts. Like La Taqueria’s other locations, the Main Street spot will also offer Taco Wednesday, an all-day deal in which diners may enjoy six meat, vegetarian, or vegan tacos for the price of four every Wednesday.

Following the taco shop’s playful, recognizable aesthetic, La Taqueria Main features a dual-tone palette of teal and navy; graphic handmade tiles and ceramics imported from Guadalajara; and vintage light fixtures and furnishings, including a reclaimed-wood picnic table from Provence, France, provided by Scott Landon Antiques. Ample bar and table seating, natural light, and 30-foot-high ceilings create a bright, welcoming space that invites guests to meet and linger.

La Taqueria Main is the first of a number of launches (and relaunches) for the local Mexican restaurant this year. The business is in the midst of revamping its original Hastings Street location and has plans to relocate its Cambie Street eatery to West Broadway and Yukon Street. It continues to offer special-event and catering services from its North Vancouver taco shop and commissary kitchen.

La Taqueria Main is open Monday to Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Thursday to Saturday from 11 a.m. to 12 a.m.; and Sunday from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m. For more information, please visit www.lataqueria.com.
