La Taqueria is opening a new location at 2521 Main Street. If you live in the area you might recognize that address as the Japanese waffle milk bar, Miura, which was short-lived just south of Broadway (with neighbours Rosemary Rocksalt, The Noodle Box and Verdura).
It’s a good pick up for La Taqueria, as it’s as prime a location as can be. I imagine the company, an established local brand with three other locations in the city (plus one in North Van and another in Victoria), will do well here.
Because tacos. People like those.
Co-owner Marcelo Romero told me by phone yesterday that the new, licensed establishment will see some 45 seats spread out in 1,200 sqft with a large communal table in front of a service bar. To give you an idea as to the food and drink that will be served, check out the menu here.
The design looks to be following the pinche taco shop’s well established aesthetic with Mexican and brand vernacular motifs (eg. bright tile work), and I’m told local antique/vintage specialist Scott Landon has been sourcing some interesting statement pieces for them.
I’m looking forward to seeing the finished space. Thankfully, we won’t have to wait very long. Marcelo says he hopes to open in the second week of February. In the meantime, take a look inside…
This makes me very happy!
Makes sense, since they’re losing the Cambie location sometime soon; the site has a redevelopment permit application on it.
¡Orale!
