Doing The Dishes with Royal Dinette’s Kaitlyn Stewart

The Dishes is a new Scout column that asks Vancouverites to walk us through a map of their ideal day and night on the town. We’re talking breakfast, lunch, happy hour, dinner and late night cocktails. Tax and tip included.

We caught up with Kaitlyn Stewart, bar director of Royal Dinette and 2017 World Class Bartender of the Year, to map out her favourite spots to eat and drink around town.

Good morning! What’s for breakfast?

My go-to weekend spot is Farmer’s Apprentice. The menu is constantly changing, but is always consistent. I always start with the fresh breads and house made jam.

Where should we meet for coffee/tea?

Beaucoup Bakery makes the absolute best London Fog and chocolate croissant in the city. I always suggest meeting there before anywhere else.

Now we’re hungry again. What’s for lunch?

I’m a big fan of any and all things ramen. My usual spot is Danbo on 4th. The Miso Rekka Ramen is dynamite.

Who has you figured out at Happy Hour?

I’m typically working during happy hour, so I’d say Royal Dinette. Where else in the city can you get a $6 Daiquiri?

Royal Dinette (Closed) 905 Dunsmuir St. MAP

What’s for dinner?

You can never go wrong with Bao Bei. I dream about the sticky rice cakes and marinated eggplant. And any place that has a pina colada on their menu is alright by me!

What’s for dessert?

Donuts! All of the donuts! Either the sourdoughnut at 49th Parallel or the Earl Grey donut at Cartems.

Cartems 534 W Pender St MAP

Where are you taking us for late night cocktails?

Grapes & Soda. Satoshi is a wizard. There’s always a unique daily cocktail that’s super tasty, or go for something off the menu and you won’t be disappointed.

Sunja Link Does The Dishes

We already know that the local clothing designer and owner of Main Street boutique and spa, Sunja Link Body Shoppe, has discerning taste when it comes to the products and items that she puts on her body. So we're unsurprised that she's equally thoughtful about what food and drink she prefers to put into it.
