The Classic Volkswagen Camper Van that Races over 100 MPH on its Side

(via) File this under the weird things cops do with their spare time and cash…

“A mechanic has managed to transform a 1970’s VW camper into the one of the world’s wackiest race cars by putting it on its side. Jeff Bloch, 44, aka Speedycop has made a name for himself for his outlandish race car builds which, include an upside down Chevrolet Camaro and a plane that was converted into a street legal vehicle.”

It took Jeff – a 21-year veteran police officer – and his team over 1,000 hours and some 5 weeks to create by welding a 1976 VW camper van body on its side to the chassis of a 1988 VW Rabbit with a 1.8L GTI engine, giving the thing 120 horsepower and a top speed of about 100 mph.
