Vancouver, BC | Award-winning locavore chef David Gunawan has uncorked a new Wine Director for his front-of-house teams at South Granville farm-to-table restaurant Farmer’s Apprentice and adjacent wine bar Grapes & Soda in Kieran Fanning.

A rising star in Vancouver’s wine community, Fanning joins the Farmer’s and Grapes & Soda family after holding a number of notable positions in the industry, including working under chefs John Blakeley at Le Parisien and David Hawksworth at Bel Café before putting in a two-year stint as Assistant and then Head Sommelier at Chambar.

In his new role, Fanning pairs a wide-ranging assortment of exclusively natural, biodynamic and organic wines hailing from all points of the globe with the sustainably-focused, locally-sourced brand of gastronomy that Gunawan and his team practice and preach.

“It’s a great opportunity for me to join the family at Farmer’s Apprentice and Grapes & Soda and work with not only a first-rate team but a truly exclusive list of intriguing wines,” says Fanning. “There’s a real sense of freedom here and no autocracy about the wines we offer. It’s exciting to have a singular focus on making organic, natural and biodynamic wines more approachable to our guests.”

Opened in 2013 and named Best New Restaurant, Best Casual Restaurant and Restaurant of the Year at the 25th annual Vancouver Magazine Restaurant Awards, Farmer’s Apprentice recently reopened its doors after a redesign of the space and the addition of new curated prix-fixe nightly dining options and family-style weekend brunch service.
