Vancouver, BC | East Van Roasters is hiring! EVR is a bean-to-bar chocolate shop, coffee roaster and bakery social enterprise, owned and operated by the PHS Community Services Society. We are currently seeking a creative and passionate individual to join our team as Head Barista / Café Manager. This is a full-time 1 year contract position (with opportunity to lead into long-term). Wages are competitive and based on experience.

Qualities we are looking for:

Someone who is confident, self-motivated and reliable
Out-of-the-box thinker with a positive personality
Able to take and give direction and loves to help others learn
Cool under pressure, patient, non-judgemental and compassionate
Punctual and professional

Skills / Requirements:

Must have minimum 1-2 years’ experience managing a café or similar situation
Must be able to work a flexible schedule
Must excel at time management and juggling of duties
Must be a confident leader
Excellent barista skills and solid coffee knowledge (we can teach you about our origins)
Good communication and interpersonal skills mandatory
Highly organized and confident in running your station
In-depth knowledge of sanitation principles, food preparation and safety
Good POS and computer skills

East Van Roasters is a bean-to-bar chocolate shop, coffee roaster and bakery that opened in April 2013. Our café is situated in the historic Rainier Hotel and has a warm and relaxing environment where you can watch parts of the chocolate making process happening in the roasting room or the chocolate lab. We love making chocolate and having a direct connection to the farmers that grow and harvest the raw cacao that we use. Chocolate making is a multi-step, multi-location process that we jump into once the dried beans arrive at our shop. We sort the beans, roast and winnow (remove the shells), grind and conche (refine) small batches of chocolate which we temper and make into chocolate bars or confections. Mondays when we roast coffee (and utilize the café section for packaging) you are welcome to sit at the front on the bar stools and watch the roaster at work.

We are a social enterprise program of the PHS Community Services Society that provides training and employment opportunities to women living in the DTES.
