Drinking Proper Cocktails And Noshing Well With Uva’s New ‘Timeout’ Menu

Though we have an incredible cocktail culture in this city, it still pales in comparison to the great drinking corners of the world, places like San Francisco, Seattle, New Orleans, and London. Happy Hour just might be the kick in the ass Vancouver needs, and now that it’s legal, it’s good to detail what’s out there.

by Shaun Layton | Today we visit we visit Uva Wine & Cocktail Bar in the Moda Hotel. The now venerable establishment is no stranger to the Happy Hour game, but the latest menu addition has really caught my attention. Bar Manager Sabrine Dhaliwal (who Scout recently profiled in a Big Interview) has created a new “Timeout” card for Happy Hour that runs daily from 2pm-6pm.

It boasts $8 and $9 cocktails, $7 wine pours, and a variety of antipasti dishes to snack on. The Captain Shaddock $9 is the star of the bunch (bourbon, grapefruit, peach tea, lime, bitters), and it sings alongside crunchy, salty halibut croquettes (4 for $7). Beyond that impactful pairing, the Pâté nella Crosta is the best ten bucks one can spend on meat and pickles, and it’s even better with a tall can of Brio Pilsner.

Given Uva’s prime location on the doorstep of downtown’s theatres and stadiums, it’s always been a great place to pre-game, but the Timeout menu makes it even better. Check out all the options here.

Reverence, Respect, and Realization: What The Acorn Taught Me

At 21 years old, I'm still just a kid and relatively new to working in restaurants, but I grew up umbilically tied to the hospitality industry. My father was a food writer, and my mother is a photographer. Their careers meant that most of my early years were spent in kitchens and dining rooms instead of on playgrounds and soccer fields; consequently, I learned my table manners before I could count past one hundred.
