ABOUT TORAFUKU

A-Scott-and-Scott-Architects--Torafuku-Modern-Asian-Eatery-11H(WS)

Meaning “lucky tiger” in Japanese, Torafuku is nestled on the border of historic Chinatown and is the new modern-Asian restaurant by Le Tigre food truck owners Clement Chan and Steve Kuan. The menu is designed for sharing. Dishes are playful yet skillfully prepared, delivering bold interpretations on flavours traditionally found in Japanese, Taiwaness, Korean, and Vietnamese cuisine. Every plate features seasonal ingredients, straight from local farmers.

Torafuku’s barman Max Borrowman delivers a cocktail menu that is both inventive and befitting of Chan’s menu. In addition, it has a wine, beer, and sake list that really compliment the dishes.

The 2,200 square feet, 50-seat restaurant is designed by local company Scott and Scott Architects. The space features an open kitchen, a long communal concrete table, booth seating, and uses raw and utilitarian materials that will wear-in with use.

“Spirited Torafuku kicks ass in Vancouver…As at the pair’s mobile kitchen, there’s not a bland morsel to be found here. Rather, creative dishes burst with character and flavour.” – Gail Johnson, Georgia Straight

“Simple and playful are perfect adjectives for the food…It all adds up to a room – and menu – that will keep you coming back soon and often.” – Anya Levykh, Westender
