The point of VWBCI is to open local minds to outside practices, concepts, and ideas that might stand to improve our greater civic situation in a parallel universe where coolness was valued more than practicality and funds spent on public works of art were raised by way of a special NIMBY tax levied against serial complainers.

(via) Something similar in scope and size to this stunning new observation platform and shelter on the River Daugava in Latvia would be a interesting addition to the cliffs at Prospect Point in Stanley Park. It was made almost entirely of larch wood and designed on a natural incline by Latvian studios Didzis Jaunzems and Laura Laudere with the architectural assistance of Jaunromans un Abele. Its top is footed with ridged planks to keep people who ascend it from slipping in the rain, while the shelter below sports frontage that is glassed in to provide a contemplative respite from the wind and wet. Outside, a terrace wraps the front and leads to a cantilevered balcony that hangs over the edge.
