Vanniversary

Vanniversary | date, personal holiday | The day that marks the anniversary of any individual or family’s arrival in the city of Vancouver. Vanniversaries are increasingly marked and celebrated by newcomers, who (generally) view it as a day that kicked off a positive change in their lives. Celebrations range (in enthusiasm) from Facebook status updates to all-out parties.

Usage | “I’m sorry but I can’t come to work next Tuesday night. It’s our family’s 15th Vanniversary.”

  1. But what’s the term you use to mark the date you leave Vancouver, because you realise that arts degree you did won’t cut it as your day job barely covers rent and you have no time for creative stuff because your night job is so mind numbly boring that you lack creative juices and no amount of downward dogging or drinking bone broth will cure your ennui from a no-fun city? #vanexit doesn’t sound too good so I implore the wordsmiths of Scout to come up with something catchy for the inevitable facebook event.
