With our city now so laughably unaffordable, thousands of Vancouverites are stuck imagining wonderful homes instead of living in them. “Spaced” is a record of our minds wandering the world of architecture and design, up and away from the unrewarding realities of shoebox condos, dark basement suites, and sweet fuck all on Craigslist.

(via) This secluded house is perched above a remote, private cove and crescent beach on the Banks Peninsula in New Zealand. Designed by Auckland-based Pattersons Associates, the three-room retreat (lobby, living/sleeping area, kitchen) was built using largely local materials and is equipped for on-site water harvesting and waste-water treatment. It comes complete with heated floors, an outdoor lounge, and a pair of fireplaces. It’s only available for rent, which is to say that it’s chief function is as a honeymoon escape. The cost? $6,500 for two nights, which isn’t crazy considering…wait…no, that’s pretty crazy. Still, if we could wish it closer to home, we’d envision it somewhere on the wild coast between Ucluelet and Port Renfrew on Vancouver Island. Photos by Simon Devitt.
