With our city now so laughably unaffordable, thousands of Vancouverites are stuck imagining wonderful homes instead of living in them. “Spaced” is a record of our minds wandering the world of architecture and design, up and away from the unrewarding realities of shoebox condos, dark basement suites, and sweet fuck all on Craigslist.

(via) This modern, single-storey “beach cottage” on the Wisconsin shore of Lake Michigan by Milwaukee-based Ramsey Jones Architects. It’s pretty basic, and that’s exactly what we like about it.
This low and regular wall of a building contains the view to the Lake, only hinting at what lies to the east and finally revealing the wide sandy beach and blue water beyond when entering the central void. From this covered exterior space, one can enter the main cottage to the south or the screen porch / bunkhouse on the north.
This simple entry sequence leads to an efficient floor plan, laid out with graduated levels of privacy as you move to the south through the linear building. Restraint was exercised throughout the project, in scale, cost and constructability, resulting a simple rectilinear shed perched just above the sandy beach.
We’d take ours on the eastern shore of Lake Osoyoos next to Walnut Beach Resort in the South Okanagan.
