Vancouver, BC | Inspired chefs and at-home cooks can feast their eyes at Fin to Tail, a new event from the Vancouver Aquarium Marine Science Centre, featuring cooking demonstrations from the city’s hottest Ocean Wise® chefs. Seafood lovers will learn from the pros, including Chef Jonathan Chuy of La Mezcaleria, Chef Clement Chan of Torafuku, Chef Ned Bell of Vancouver Aquarium’s Ocean Wise culinary team as well as top talent from Fresh Ideas Start Here (F.I.S.H.)

A one-of-a-kind culinary event, Fin to Tail is taking place Thursday, August 11 at 7 p.m. Set against the beautiful backdrop of the Vancouver Aquarium’s outdoor courtyard and indoor galleries, each chef will prepare for their audience a simple, mouth-watering Ocean Wise dish. Tastebuds will be treated with sampling plates of each dish, paired with crisp wine from Whitehaven Winery and refreshing beer, courtesy of Red Truck Beer Company.

Guests will get an intimate look into how these top local chefs create their favourite sustainable dishes, with opportunities for Q&A following the demonstrations. Takeaway goodies include recipe cards for each dish, making it easy for guests to recreate the memorable meals at home.

“The sustainability movement continues to gain momentum, as consumers increasingly care about what they’re eating and its impact on the environment. At Fin to Tail, at-home chefs can learn from Vancouver’s very best about how to bring sustainability into their own kitchen,” said Ann-Marie Copping, Vancouver Aquarium’s Ocean Wise program manager. “We have incredible Ocean Wise partners in this city, and there’s no better way to learn about preparing delicious ocean-friendly seafood than from these ambassadors, who know how to please the palate.”

Tickets are $90 and can be purchased at www.vanaqua.org/fintotail.

Please note that this is a 19+ plus event. Proceeds from this event directly support Vancouver Aquarium’s ocean conservation programs.

About Ocean Wise™

Screen-Shot-2015-01-08-at-4.47
Overfishing is the biggest threat facing our oceans today. The Ocean Wise symbol next to a menu or seafood item is the Vancouver Aquarium’s assurance of an ocean-friendly seafood choice. Vancouver Aquarium’s Ocean Wise program makes it easy for consumers to make sustainable seafood choices that ensure the health of our oceans for generations to come.

The Vancouver Aquarium’s Ocean Wise program works directly with restaurants, markets, food services and suppliers to ensure they have the most current scientific information regarding sustainable seafood and to help them make ocean-friendly buying decisions. The options are highlighted on their menus and display cases with the Ocean Wise symbol, making it easier for consumers to make ocean-friendly seafood choices.

In addition to its website, Ocean Wise also makes available an iPhone application—an easy-to-use app that provides consumers with Ocean Wise restaurants, markets and supplier venues from coast to coast, and a comprehensive list of ocean-friendly seafood options. The Ocean Wise iPhone app is continuously updated with ocean-friendly seafood options and Ocean Wise partners spanning Victoria to Halifax.
