Koka Nikoladze’s Cool, Infinitely Customizable Analog Beat Machines

(via) Open up Koka Nikoladze‘s beautifully constructed analog beat machine and you’ll find a range of sequenced instruments in miniature. Think tuned springs, forks, plastic rulers, and so on – all infinitely programmable and subject to a chosen tempo of manual pace. Finding a tune must take a lot of time and effort, but the Oslo-based technician – a musically trained engineer – appears entirely up to the task (though the rapping over the violin accompaniment is, perhaps, a bridge too far). He’s more than a one-trick analog pony though, as he demonstrates below with an electromechanical machine of his own construction.
