We’re in the southern Okanagan this week for the Osoyoos Oyster Festival (Andrew is judging the beer-pairing competition on Friday), so we’re taking the opportunity to visit as many winery tasting rooms as we can. In the midst of explorations yesterday, we slipped in to Miradoro restaurant at Tinhorn Creek Vineyards to see what all-around genuine human being (and chef) Jeff Van Geest was up to, and to eat the hell out of something amazing on the patio overlooking the Golden Mile and far beyond. That something was a simple, char-pimpled pizza of pancetta and smoked mozzarella that came studded with sublimely aromatic confit garlic. We’ve enjoyed the pizzas at Miradoro before, but this one reminded us of how – from char and chew to blister and libretto – the pies have few (if any) equals in all of wine country. So delicious!
