The Spring 2016 Scout 25 is now online. It’s what you should feel confident giving to anyone who asks “Where should I eat in Vancouver?” It’s our list of Vancouver’s best, most consistent, most essential, and most representative restaurants, and a key facet of Scout’s seasonal GAMEPLAN project. It is decided four times a year by an esteemed panel of local restaurant industry veterans and food experts. No politics. No bullshit. Either before or after ranking the results below (by picking your favourite three), explore each restaurant in detail here…
Where is Fable?!?
Oakwood is so underrated!
No Mackenzie Room? That has got to be a typo.
The Mackenzie Room received multiple votes and an honourable mention (same with Ancora, Boulevard Kitchen & Oyster Bar, Bufala, Dock Lunch, Homer St. Cafe, Long’s Noodle House, Mackenzie Room, Miku, Mr. Red Cafe, Pidgin, Pizzeria Farina, Pourhouse, Royal Dinette, Torafuku, Tableau Bar Bistro, and Tacofino). Where is Bauhaus. What a biased list… Hardly representative of Vancouver’s diversified culinary scene. Scout magazine used to be interesting and open minded. Becoming corporate, paid off and pigeonholed. So disappointing Andrew!!
Sorry to disappoint you Mik. To clarify:
This is obviously very personal for you, since you used to be the GM/Sommelier at Bauhaus. Plain and simple: the restaurant didn’t get the votes required to qualify for inclusion. I agree that it’s unfortunate, but there’s nothing I can do about it except point out – repeat, in fact – that the Scout 25 changes four times a year.
If we speak of personal, than I must point out that Scout’s review of Bauhaus seemed very personal towards the owner mentioning that he may be at the demise and shuttering of Bauhaus. Restaurant critics are deemed with the responsability of reviewing the food, service, atmosphere etc… Not make peronsal claims or predictions about the closure of a restaurant. Further more, should support, encourage and wish well upon the industry that not only takes pride to be part of Vancouver’s economy but as well gives food critics and journalist a voice and a reason to have a job.
I will as well specify that Uwe Boll takes much pride in being a part of Vancouver and put together Bauhaus out of altruism because he wanted to bring great food to the people of Vancouver.
I wish you well, and look forward to having the people of Scout Magazine dine with us.
Mik – still and currently the GM of Bauhaus
Did you just wish me well and invite me to dinner in all sincerity? I ask because just a few hours ago you left a comment here saying that my publication was no longer interesting or open-minded but rather “corporate, paid off, and pigeonholed”. I’m sure you can understand my confusion…
Expressing one’s disagreement, opinion, point of view, and sense of critical thinking does not nullify an individual from being good, from being human, and being considerate. Two individuals could have opposing points of view, disagreements and stand at opposing political, social-economic and religious beliefs and still coexist. In simpler terms, we in the hospitality business actually live and thrive on being human to others and treating them with the most instinctual kindness whether we are treated that way or not in return.
So indeed, I did and still wish you well and would love for you to experience what Bauhaus so proudly stands for by coming in for lunch or dinner.
Did I just read that right? What a load of two-faced bullshit, Mik. You insulted Scout like a crybaby because your restaurant didn’t make the cut. Don’t tiptoe around that fact. Be a man, you fucking weasel.
Well done CG. Swearing. I expressed an opinion and a point of view and used my real name. Who tiptoes now. No need for swearing. Come by and see me. It would be a pleasure to discuss with you.
I voted, but surprised. No Ancora.
The Mackenzie room should be on here!
Hi Shannon. The Mackenzie Room received several votes but not enough to make it to the top 25. They’re duly listed as an Honourable Mention alongside several other exceptional spots.
