About Harvest

8492540227_a6513b6f2d_o

Harvest has roots firmly planted in community. The grocery and foods shop began as community project This Space, in which a public vote determined the use of the site. Voters chose to use the space as a local foods grocery, and dubbed the shop Harvest Community Foods. Celebrated chef Andrea Carlson is at the helm, crafting bowls of hot ramen noodles and stocking shelves with locally made products, artisan foods and fresh seasonal produce. Years in the restaurant industry have given Chef Andrea a close relationship with many local farmers, from whom she sources fresh ingredients for the Harvest menu. Residents in the Chinatown-Strathcona neighbourhood regularly drop by for Harvest’s signature noodle soups, crafted with a variety of fresh veggies and meats in rich homemade broth. With veggie, vegan and gluten-free options, Harvest ensures there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

Chef Andrea’s relationship with growers is now extended to the public through Harvest’s Community Supported Agriculture shares, which connect urban-dwellers to foods from nearby farms. Chef Andrea ensures each CSA package is filled with a variety of real foods; shares might include seasonal vegetables, dried fruit, grains and legumes. These chef-crafted shares are available weekly during summer and bi-weekly in winter, and offer the convenience of purchasing for a single week, multiple weeks or a full season. Through this innovative model, Harvest Community Foods strives to be a hub of the local food movement and hopes to foster a closer connection to the food we eat.
