Celebrate Charles Darwin’s B-Day With An Unnatural Selection Of Inspired Cake

Our geek dreams are coming true next Friday with FestEVOLVE, Beaty Biodiversity Museum’s event tribute to the father of evolution. First up is a cake contest to celebrate Charles Darwin’s birthday. Unlike natural selection, this contest is open to all — bakers and cake connoisseurs alike. Either design a cake evolution style, or bring down a fork and plate to enjoy the aftermath of the competition. As per the survival of the fittest, the losers get eaten. Judging begins at 4:30pm, while the savage feasting kicks off shortly thereafter.

If you can’t make it but still want to showcase your Galapagos decorating skills, send a photo of your cake here. Prizes include a membership to the Beaty Museum and the right to rule the Science Kingdom.

If Science wasn’t your favourite subject in school, it could be because you weren’t allowed to drink beer in class. Wash down that cake at Nerd Nite Darwin Day Edition: Spiders, Galaxies, and Phylogenetics hosted by the Nerd Nite crew. The evening will consist of three 20 minute evolution talks and enough beer to make it all worthwhile.

Cake Competition 4pm | Fri, Feb. 12 | Beaty Biodiversity Museum (2212 Main Mall, UBC) | Free
Nerd Nite | 6:30-9:30pm | Fri, Feb. 12 | Beaty Biodiversity Museum | $9  TICKETS
