The GOODS from Lazy Gourmet

Vancouver, BC | Celebrate the upcoming Lunar New Year with a catered meal by Vancouver’s The Lazy Gourmet. Complete with Chinese New Year favourites such as long life noodles, vegetables, steamed fish, and whole chicken, the menu by Executive Chef Jenny Hui is a great way for family and friends to gather around a table at home and enjoy good food together.

“I grew up celebrating Chinese New Year, and it was definitely a fun experience for me to develop the menu for our clients,” explains Hui, who has been part of the The Lazy Gourmet team for over 15 years. “While writing the menu, I reminisced about the times I had large family gatherings at my grandmother’s house, which was definitely the epicentre for all our Chinese New Year events. With growing families and people busy working, rejoicing during the Lunar New Year is even more important, and our team at The Lazy Gourmet makes it easy with the catered meal option.”

The Lunar New Year menu is designed for a minimum of 10 people at $88 per person, which includes an appetizer, a starter, two mains, and a dessert. Service is provided for two hours, and diners can add on more time, in addition to other The Lazy Gourmet event specialties.

Dish options include crab spring rolls, vegetable dumplings, and seared scallops with Hui’s secret XO sauce for the appetizers; pomelo salad and five-spice duck breast with a taro puree for the starters; steamed whole chicken in lotus leaves with sticky rice, stir fired tofu batons with exotic mushrooms, spicy pork on noodles, black bean marinated cod with shrimp-stuffed eggplant, and red cooked Braised Shortrib for the mains; and malted chocolate cupcakes and almond “lucky” cookies for dessert.

“The pomelo salad may not traditionally be found on a Chinese New Year menu, but still has a lot of meaning,” adds Hui. “The pomelo salad is refreshing, especially with the addition of lotus chips, ginger citrus dressing, and vegetables. It goes well with the other dishes and presents a bright burst of flavour. The addition of pomegranates symbolizes fertility.”

For those looking to plan a Year of the Monkey dinner at home or at a venue, The Lazy Gourmet Lunar New Year menu is available from now until February 8, 2016. Orders must be placed at least 48-hours prior. For ordering information, please contact the office at [email protected] or contact our Chinese Speaking Specialist [email protected].

After a 30-year tenure of delighting Vancouver with a bistro and up to four locations at one time, we now focuses on catering and producing events. Our take out program consists of items such as our house-made lasagna, cookie dough and other specialty items.

Sustainability is one of the main pillars in our philosophy and includes making sure that everything we do has the environment in mind. This means that everything in the front and back of house has a plan of action to reduce our carbon footprint and make sure that the items we serve our guests are local and the best quality. Being a part of the Ocean Wise program helps us regulate the seafood items we use and The Green Table Network assists in reducing the energy we consume and products we use that have a negative impact on the world around us.

The story our food tells is one rooted in true West Coast flavors spanning the past 30 years of food culture in Vancouver. Using only the finest ingredients we find local suppliers that can guarantee its freshness and eco-friendliness.
