On Cultural Hegemony And Xenophobic Affections For The Homeless

by Sean Orr | The idiot box: Refugees The Liberals Screwing Us. The author cites this Vancouver Sun story, claiming “Syrian refugees will be paid a meal allowance per person per day of $15 for breakfast, $16 for lunch, and $30 for dinner by the Federal Government”. What the article actually says is that hotels, serving as temporary residences, will reimburse that money. It goes on to claim that a family of refugees will get more than the $1100/month for pensioners, which is also simply not true.

This would be fine if it was a limited circle jerk of mouth breathing xenophobes but it was shared 37,000 times on Facebook. I’m willing to bet the original author of the post, Mike Kaufman, has never been on a Raise the Rates march. Tell me again how much you cared about the homeless last week?

But yeah, it’s the white men who are being silenced: Dosanjh: The silencing of the white men of the West. It’s true, though…the white men are silenced. That’s why the mainstream media is barely covering the story of the brave and bold armed white mob in Oregon that took over a federal building. I mean, what more can we white people do to get noticed?!

“There are storm clouds on the horizon that endanger the continuing pursuit of true equality…” Oh, you mean like the rising tide of islamophobia as demonstrated by the niqab debate during the last election? I didn’t think so. As Stuart Parker asks, should we really be surprised that “the guy who used land mines on indigenous protesters and fired 14,000 rounds of live ammo at them as Attorney-General has some problematic views on race and culture?”

The final word from Nicholas Ellan: “It’s cultural hegemony, wrapped in the language of humanism: liberalism at its absolute worst”.
