As we do every year when the holiday season approaches, we ask members of the Scout Community to fill us in on what they have in store for private functions, special events, ideas for gifts (ahem, gift certificates!), and much more. L’ABATTOIR

L’Abattoir specializes in French inspired West Coast fare in a refined and comfortable setting. The renowned Gastown eatery will be open for lunch over the holiday season to accommodate festive diners. Holiday lunch hours are December 2-18 on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 11:30am-2:00pm. Group reservations and set menus are also available. For last-minute holiday gatherings, the private dining room offers the ideal event space.

Guests can ring in the New Year in stye at L’Abattoir, offering up two ways for guests to experience its elegant menu. Party-goers can hobnob with other guests in the main dining area, where L’Abattoir will be serving up its full a la carte dinner service. Revellers can also book an elegant five-course dinner paired with wine and cocktails in the private dining room. Tables in the private dining space can accommodate groups from 2-6 people, and reservations are available at 7pm on New Year’s Eve. The $175 per-person price includes a five-course dinner and beverage parings and is inclusive of all taxes. Tickets must be pre-sold in advance, and there will be an automatic gratuity of 18% added on the final bill.

FAT BADGER

Here at this little red house, built in 1903, on Alberni street, we have tried to open a space reminiscent of the old pubs, in and around London, that we used to frequent as young adults. Completely unpretentious, full of people of all ages, talking about nothing and everything, and not watching tv. Chef Neil Taylor serves Sunday Roasts every week, a dinner tradition inspired by his childhood in the UK. Through the month of December, Taylor will serve the finest farm-to-table offerings of roast pork, beef, and lamb alongside traditional sides such as Yorkshire pudding, duck fat-roasted potatoes or Brussels sprouts. Sunday Roast dinners can be enjoyed by one guest, or shared by a large group. Groups are encouraged to book their table early, as seats are expected to fill quickly.
