(via) With the decision recently made to finally bring down the Georgia and Dunsmuir viaducts, we’d like to put forward a proposal of our own that hits all the required marks: a surf park. This fantastic idea from Australia’s MJA Studio was first envisioned to replace an aging stadium in that country. It is a mixed use concept that sees the large, wave generating pool and artificial beach surrounded by a ramping ribbon of multi-use grass that elevates on one side to row upon row of modern condos, 220 in all. We believe that a similar surf park would hit all the desired marks for the city, namely:
a.) provide fun, outdoor park space (with underground parking) to the downtown core
b.) throw a bone to the greedy-assed developers who run the show
c.) fit the “Stadium District” profile with a comically colossal footprint
d.) feed our growing “livable city” accolade-craving smugness
d.) provide a daily surfing opportunity for Vancouverites
