(via) How cool is this beachfront library in China? Situated in the Beidaihe New District on the Bohai Sea coast, the modern, two-level beauty by Beijing’s Vector Architects has a voluminous open concept, stadium-like reading area and several nooks and crannies for bibliophiles to hide away in and read. We think it would be a nice, completely natural fit for Kitsilano. The neighbourhood’s branch is way south of West 4th Avenue (off Broadway at Macdonald), which is to say too from the beach. If we could dream a little dream, we’d see the Boathouse chain restaurant surrender its stunning Kits Beach location to make it happen (don’t worry, they have many, many others), or at least swap addresses with the Kitsilano Library. The modern building by AA Robins would remain of course, only it would serve the community books instead of bellinis. Just a thought…
