(via) This west-facing house is tucked away on a mountainside in the wilds of Bugye, Korea. Designed by Seung H-Sang of IROJE architects & planners to fulfill a brief for a contemplative retreat, its profile just pokes from its heavily forested environs and makes the most of its location with a living space and terrace sharing the same stunning view.
“When you see this house at a distance, you will find it protruding from underground, emerging into the world as if it has been waiting a long time and this is why this house remains still with incompleteness.”
It’s very different from the newer homes that are popular in BCs hinterland (typically nouveau craftsman behemoths), though it looks and feels especially suited to our more mountainous terrain. Dig that descending, avenue-like entrance through the forest!
