We checked out the double whammy Garlic Festival and the annual “Chefs to the Field” cooking competition out at Richmond’s Terra Nova Rural Park yesterday. It proved to be a full day of fantastic and inventive cooking, outdoor adventure, kids activities, an artisan market, live music, a beer garden, and even some garlic ice cream. Scout editor-in-chief Andrew Morrison judged the competition with food writer Mijune Pak (Follow Me Foodie) and chef Alex Tung of La Grotta del Formaggio. Competitors included such fine Vancouver restaurants as Longtail Kitchen, Wild Rice, Boulevard, Fable, Torafuku, Market in the Shangri-La, Terminal City Club, and the soon to open Savio Volpe. Longtail Kitchen won the day, with Torafuku coming in 2nd place and Savio Volpe taking 3rd. Proceeds from the day went toward running the The Sharing Farm and Richmond Schoolyard Society program. Take a look!
