Vancouver, BC | les amis du FROMAGE is looking for a Full Time production cook to prepare our line of frozen soups and meals.

These are not your average home replacement meals. All of our soups and entrees are made from scratch in small batches, by hand with care. That means fresh vegetables, real butter, quality cuts of meat and seafood, whole milk and cream, fresh stocks, garden herbs, and of course, great cheeses. We use premium local ingredients like Farmcrest Farms Free-Run chicken and turkey, un-medicated Heritage Angus beef, Pemberton lamb and Fraser Valley un-medicated pork. We also try to use other local ingredients where possible.

This person will be responsible for the preparation and packaging of our frozen soups and entrees. This is a full time, day time job. Your schedule will be Monday to Friday, with a shift of 10 am to 6 pm.

We are looking for someone who:

• Has previous kitchen experience using classical cooking techniques including basic meat butchery, stocks, soups, roux based sauces, etc.
• Has good knife skills
• Has a commitment to quality, and an eye for details
• Is extremely organized
• Has clean and tidy work habits
• Works well independently

Job Description

• General food prep. Chopping, mixing, cooking.
• Guarantee that only the best quality food is produced all of the time
• Follow and adhere to existing recipes and guarantee their accuracy and consistency
• Packaging of prepared meals. All items must be packaged neatly
• Keep stock areas clean, tidy and organized
• Prepare orders for delivery to wholesale customers
• Maintain high standards of cleanliness
• Dish and pot washing
• Participate in general sanitation and maintenance of the kitchen
• Adhere to all policies and procedures

You should be able to

• Work in cold storage areas such as a freezer or walk in cooler for extended periods
• Lift up to 25 Kg

The mother and daughter team of Alice & Allison Spurrell stock the larders of the city’s finest restaurants and your fridge alike. They fill their shelves with hundreds of cheeses including local, unpasteurized (Lait Cru) French, English, Italian, Spanish, Swiss and other specialties from around the world. The store regularly stocks between 400-500 cheeses for sale to both trade and consumers. Of those cheeses, at least 150 are from Canada, with a focus on British Columbia and Quebec.

In addition to cheese, we also import many other specialty foods including top quality blended and single varietal extra virgin olive oils, specialty vinegars, cheese accompaniments, crackers and biscuits, local and imported charcuterie and cheese equipment including girolles, cheese knives, cheese boards, raclette machines and fondue pots.

The East Vancouver store is home to our production kitchen where our chefs prepare our popular line of frozen ready to heat soups and entrees. Everything is made from scratch, and in small batches. WE use quality local ingredients like Rossdown Farms Poultry and Pemberton Meadows beef. These meals can be purchased at all les amis du FROMAGE stores.
