Eye “Occlusion Culling” By Ed Spence At Hot Art Wet City On Main Street

IMG_5486
by Avalon Mott | If you haven’t seen the current exhibition up at Hot Art Wet City, It’s Not Me You See, you should do that. Curated by Alex MF Quicho, it brings a refined group of artists into the space under the theme of glitched or obscured identities in our time of constant surveillance.

Ed Spence is one of the featured artists, and his piece Occlusion Culling is worth a second and third look. Using found source imagery from a late 60’s Beautiful British Columbia Magazine, Spence creates a visually stimulating piece combining photograph practices and mosaic craft. Yes, he glued all those squares you see one by one to create the mosaic. This piece looks great upon a glance, but has so much more depth to offer the closer you get to it and the more time you spend with it. Hang it on a wall that gets lots of eyes, as it is an attention seeker.

Piece: Occlusion Culling, 16×20, unique archival inkjet print and glue on panel.
Artist: Ed Spence | Price: $2400.00
Hot Art Wet City | 2206 Main St | 604-764-2266 (now to May 30).

Put A Dot On It highlights a work of excellence by an emerging artist in Vancouver. The piece will be on view to the public at a gallery or open studio, and available to buy. The point of the column is to make buying affordable art easier than navigating the shortest route possible to your local Ikea.
