#WXA100

The GOODS from THISOPENSPACE

Vancouver, BC | This month we’ve got a hot line-up of pop-up shops to suit the spring in your step. And since April is a month for rejuvenation and blossoming from the shadows of winter, this time around they’re all about entrepreneurship, design, and the limited edition. Have a look at the full upcoming calendar and make sure to sign up to our coolkids newsletter to always be the first to know.

APR 4-6 | #WXA100 | Vancouver based design team #WXA100 creates collections of designed objects restricted to a limited-edition run of 100. This month they launch The Ampersand Series, a collection of hand-bound marble covered notebooks. Come make your own marble paper with founders Warren and Artem and they’ll bind a custom notebook for you! Look out Moleskine. Their previous collection, a minimalist jewelry line will be for sale too. More info here.

APR 8-15 | #TheColourShow | Curated in house #TheColourShow highlights works that employ colour or the idea of colour with Amelia Garvin, Melissa King, Christina Song, Dana Mooney, Carina-Marie Nilsson, Natasha Broad, Andrew Pommier, Souzan Rezai, Priscilla Yu and Jules Francisco. Colour can be defined as “the property possessed by an object of producing different sensations on the eye as a result of the way the object reflects or emits light.” We thought, _heck_ why don’t we reach out and get these artists down in our space to show some of their most vibrant and current work. So we did. Head down to The Playground for opening night, 434 Columbia, Thurs Apr 9th, 7-11PM. More info here.

APR 16 | #VancouverOpera | You’re invited to The Salon: An Intimate Evening with the Opera, a candlelit showcase of arias. Curious? Come experience the opera on relaxed terms in the company of friends with an intimate performance by a distinguished singer and pianist. Opera just isn’t the same on the stereo. For a knee melting all inspiring evening reserve your ticket – includes complementary wine and hors d’oeuvres to suit the mood. More info here.

APR 17-19 | #VestigePlus | Vestige is a fashion house that designs and manufactures locally. Their premium T gets rolled up and packaged in a glass bottle upon purchase. This brand is all about taking the time to think about the days of slow communication, a message in a bottle just might be the slowest, maybe therapeutic too. #VestigePlus means you’re the +1 this weekend. Drop by The Playground and get your fill of concept shop heaven. They’ve curated local brands: Woodlot, Oollo Tea, Happy Knots, Haejin Lee Ceramics, Foe and Dear Jewelry all together in one space. Tag in on the launch party – a casual gathering of passionate and mindful folk. More info here.

APR 20-23 | #HandsomeMountain | The irresistibly clever brand #HandsomeMountain founded by Jesse Nightingale is all about designing top-notch dog beds for local dog owners and animal lovers. Just look at that triple layer doggy kingdom! We’re not suggesting you need 3 dog beds in your apartment…but it is an option. Jesse’s hosting a fundraiser for the BC SPCA you should check out on the last night of her pop-up. Go girl go! She’s got entrepreneurial guts weaving design with sweet animal love. We feel like this could be your very first pup-up shop (hah). Okay, Jesse’s the brains behind that one. More info here.

APR 24-26 | sofiaXconnally | This tag team may be a little ahead of the curve here. Sofia Mendez Schenone and her design comrade Connally McDougall bring pieces from their FW15 and SS15 Collections to The Playground this month fresh from the Vancouver Fashion Week runway. Sofia, with a fashion line of the same name earned Best Up-and Coming designer in Western Canada’s Generation Next competition a few years back. Yikes! Connally recently moved back to Vancouver from London where she studied at Central Saint Martins. Her men’s and womenswear lines employ rich architectural silhouettes and textural details. Come by and meet the dynamic duo on opening day, tea and cookies in store. More info here.

APR 27 – MAY 3 | #CoutureTherapy | She’s been addicted to designing clothes since she made a pair of boxer shorts in high school. Sarah, Blanche Macdonald graduate 2002 Co-founded House of Couture and has created a sophisticated, ready to wear women’s line – effortless and elegant. Sarah welcomes you to try on the SS15 Collection and the fresher than fresh FW15 Collection this April. She shut it down with her Vancouver Fashion Week runway launch last month. Buyers don’t miss this. More info here.

About thisopenspace

TOSc-JR-12touched-up-585x389

thisopenspace is a full-service pop-up production agency. Their flagship storefront in Chinatown is an idea playground and a pop-up ready space. It’s where they have hosted over 70 pop-up concepts since 2012. But there is so much more…

POP-UP READY SPACES
Empty space sucks and space for short-term use is rare. We help clients find flexible space and open underutilized space for temporary use. We’ve done this around Vancouver neighbourhoods including Mount Pleasant, Gastown, South Granville, and Fraserhood. Do you have or need space for temporary use? Contact us.

PROMOTION AND PRESS RELATIONS
It ain’t a party if no one shows up. We provide promotion and press relations exclusively to short term pop-up shops, exhibitions, and events. Whether it’s happening at one of our spaces or not, we help clients connect with their audience. Here’s the proof.

AN ENGAGED AUDIENCE
A pop-up is a limited time offer and we make sure that clients get noticed by an engaged audience that we’ve built over the last two years. This includes over 1000+ subscribers to our monthlycoolkids newsletter, 3000+ Instagram, 1900+Facebook, and 1500+ Twitter followers. We leverage our audience and get clients noticed.

EVENT PRODUCTION
Over the past two years, we’ve seen the best and the less than stellar. We know the elements that make a pop-up event successful and those to avoid. Our team has a track record of producing successful retail, food, and entertainment events. We design unique and memorable experiences.
