80+ Works By Andy Warhol To Be Exhibited Next Month In Yaletown Warehouse

MAISON AI and Revolver Gallery Beverly Hills are bringing an exhibition of over 80 original prints and paintings by Andy Warhol to Vancouver. WARHOL – A Different Idea of Love will be shown at 1280 Homer St. (a Yaletown warehouse) from March 1st to March 30th from 11am to 6pm, Monday through Saturday. From the PR:

“The 80 pieces, as a collection have never been exhibited together under one roof.” MAISON AI’s Christopher Dohm says. “It is a rare opportunity to experience the master of the pop art movement: we will screen a movie; showcase coveted works, and for 30 days exhibit the largest collection of [Warhol] prints and paintings in Canada.”

Warhol’s portraits were gifts to the gods (of their day), men and women such as Georges Marciano, Jane Fonda and Ted Kennedy (featured in the exhibition). “To have a portrait painted by Andy Warhol carried incredible prestige and in many circles was considered the ultimate form of social validation,” Mr. Dohm comments.

“The subjects of the portraits in Andy’s ‘Socialites’ series, for example, were members of the social elite who wished to be elevated to the status of his other subjects – globally recognized icons, but Warhol did more than just iconify his subjects; he immortalized them.”

Today, by value of transactions, Andy Warhol is the most coveted, and collected, artist in the world. Last year almost 1,300 Warhol works were sold for more than $653 million US at auction.
