The GOODS from THISOPENSPACE

Vancouver, BC | It’s the first full month of fall; we’ve put away the air conditioner and brought out the raincoats. It’s also the season for taking in art and one stop on your gallery hop should include the solo exhibition debuts of two artists at our flagship storefront.

It starts with Jason Cusator’s large format abstract paintings and then Rudolf Sokolovski’s life-size bronze and wood sculptures. Later in the month, online women’s fashion retailer HART Republic comes to us all the way from Halifax for one week. There’s also a very first health care pop-up and finally a one-day fashion show meets vogue ball performance to wrap up this month’s calendar.

For a full list of what’s ahead including more pop-ups being held around town, check us out on the new thisopenspace.ca.

OCT 01-12 | #JasonCusator | “This Exists” is the debut solo exhibition by Canadian artist Jason Cusator showing abstract paintings in acrylic and oil. His large format work is at times dark with an undertone of vibrancy, all the while remaining playful. For Jason, abstract allows for the expression of what cannot be articulated in other mediums. The artist lists Newman, Rothko, and Malevich as his influences.
Hours: 11AM-7PM daily, 11AM-6PM Sunday

OCT 14-19 | #Sokolovski | Local sculptor Rudolf Sokolovski brings bronze and wood figurative compositions and life-size portrait busts to Chinatown for a one-week exhibition. The artwork explores themes of beauty, inspiration, and the power of the human form, through tectonics and linear expressionism, a style that uses rhythmic lines and the flow of forms to express emotion.
Hours 10AM-7PM daily

OCT 21-26 | #HARTrepublic | Online ladies fashion retailer #HARTrepublic is coming West for the first time and bringing the Halifax based brand across the country for a pop-up tour starting in Vancouver. There’s a few weeks to peruse their clothes online before you get the try them in person. The style is for the young professional boss lady and fittingly, there’s a shopping party or two planned for the week.
Hours: 11AM-7PM daily, 11AM-5PM Sunday

OCT 27-28 | #RTpopup | A health care pop-up? Believe it. #RTpopup is a public space to engage the community and meet the therapists outside of the traditional hospital/clinic environment. Get a free breathing test done with an in-house spirometer (and for most of us, find out what the heck is a spirometer). It’s a welcoming space to connect with Respiratory Therapists and talk to about your cardio-respiratory health. No appointments necessary and best of all no waiting rooms.
Hours: 11AM-10PM daily

OCT 29 | #HouseofGold | Showcasing the works of sound artist and designer Sara Gold, #HouseofGold is part fashion show and part vogue ball performance. The designer works exclusively with vintage furs and materials to create new bold designs. Guests are encouraged to dress the part and play along as the models vogue, thwack, and give face. Expect music, fashion, performance art, and a good people.
Hours: 7-11PM, show 9PM

About thisopenspace

TOSc-JR-12(touched-up)

thisopenspace is a full-service pop-up production agency. Their flagship storefront in Chinatown is an idea playground and a pop-up ready space. It’s where they have hosted over 70 pop-up concepts since 2012. But there is so much more…

POP-UP READY SPACES
Empty space sucks and space for short-term use is rare. We help clients find flexible space and open underutilized space for temporary use. We’ve done this around Vancouver neighbourhoods including Mount Pleasant, Gastown, South Granville, and Fraserhood. Do you have or need space for temporary use? Contact us.

PROMOTION AND PRESS RELATIONS
It ain’t a party if no one shows up. We provide promotion and press relations exclusively to short term pop-up shops, exhibitions, and events. Whether it’s happening at one of our spaces or not, we help clients connect with their audience. Here’s the proof.

AN ENGAGED AUDIENCE
A pop-up is a limited time offer and we make sure that clients get noticed by an engaged audience that we’ve built over the last two years. This includes over 1000+ subscribers to our monthlycoolkids newsletter, 3000+ Instagram, 1900+Facebook, and 1500+ Twitter followers. We leverage our audience and get clients noticed.

EVENT PRODUCTION
Over the past two years, we’ve seen the best and the less than stellar. We know the elements that make a pop-up event successful and those to avoid. Our team has a track record of producing successful retail, food, and entertainment events. We design unique and memorable experiences.

ACCOLADES
“The incredibly successful rotating pop-up shop that offers people the chance to try out a storefront” – Vancouver Sun, August 2014
