You Best Not Miss At Magnificent “Laksa King” On East Hastings

3

Never Heard Of It is a new series that explores Vancouver’s many informal hole-in-the-wall eateries.

Laksa King’s restorative bowl of laksa on a chilly, no-good Vancouver day is a serious no-brainer. Its superiority in the soup game gives new meaning to Omar Little’s famous line from The Wire, “When you come at the king, you best not miss.” It’s hard to resist licking the bowl clean with your tongue, so get some Roti Canai to do the job. And the King offers up so much more than just the Burmese signature spicy noodle soup. Their Laphet Thoke (tea leaf salad) and Green Mango Salad, for example, are both packed with colour, contrasting textures and nuanced flavour.

  1. Great pics! It’s now just called Laksa King as Bo sold off the business. Recipes are still close to the original.

  2. I used to love this place and then the business hours got super erratic and they were never open when they were supposed to be (at least every time I attempted to hit it up)… hopefully they have gotten a little more dependable.

  3. Such a wonderful place! I haven’t found any change in quality at all under the new owners, and they have added some new dishes that have been worth trying (always hard to try something new when it means not having the Laksa).

  4. Frenchie’s Diner, owns the location that Laksa King is in. A recent renovation left me pondering… “Is Frenchie’s moving back in?”. The same mural from other Frenchie’s locations was painted on the wall, the furniture from the Frenchie’s Dunsmuir location was moved in and new lighting was installed. This all occurred while the Laksa King family went back to Burma for a vacation. They are back now and still operating in what looks like a 50’s diner. Same food, new decor. When Bo first moved into the location, he shared it with a Bubble Tea shop. Who knows… maybe now I can get a side of Poutine with my Laksa.

  5. Whoops sorry! That broth looks….perfect. Definitely want to try the tea salad. Never made it to Burma and it’s on my Food Bucket List.
