The GOODS from The Biltmore Cabaret

Vancouver, BC | Come down to the The Biltmore Cabaret, kick up your boots and swing a shaleighleigh with us for a St. Patrick’s Day Party featuring The River and The Road playing their first Vancouver city show of 2014 with Mike Edel, Greg Drummond & Twin Bandit! After crossing an ocean, leaving a hemisphere, and a long stint hitch hiking across the American Southwest, singer/guitarist Andrew Phelan made his way to Chicago with the looming need to cross into Canada for work. He had two flight choices—Montreal or Vancouver—and flying west was cheaper. Once there, he found a healthy contest in singer/banjo player Keenan Lawlor, who had been playing around Vancouver for the previous eight months. Keenan had moved across water to forge a new path, but in his case, it was the Georgia Strait instead of the Pacific Ocean. In the beginning the two butted heads, seeing in each other the greatest competition for the attention of an East Vancouver open mic audience. Competition turned to collaboration, busking, and living on scraps together to make their musical existence possible. After several months as a duo, they recorded their debut eponymous twelve-track album. In the spring of 2012, the band emerged as a dynamic four-piece with the addition of drummer Cole George and bassist John Hayes. Learn more after the jump…

They are now planning the second Canada-wide tour for May/June 2014, and will be recording their sophomore album at Vancouver’s world class studio “The Warehouse” over the winter of 2014.

Mike Edel | With his debut The Last Of Our Mountains, Edel has learned that home, love and youthfulness are neither innocent nor simple. Born in rural Alberta, his youth was spent between rocky mountains and vast wheat fields. These landscapes shaped the album; a sharp and urgent collection of 8 songs that give way to the adventurous, compassionate and delicate.

Greg Drummond | Born and raised in Port Moody BC, Greg Drummond’s current music style shows influence from the era of traditional Appalachian Folk music with a modern Southern Rock transformation. Greg’s true strength in music lies in his songwriting. His songs are stories of struggle, adventure, and the crazy experiences of life. Paired with his deep and distinguishing voice and toe-tapping melodies, Greg’s lyricism allows his audience to be transported to a place and time offering them an escape from their comfortable reality. For those that are close to Greg, they know him as an incredibly prolific songwriter.

Twin Bandit | Twin Bandit is Hannah Walker and Jamie Elliott. Together they bring you an intimate folk/roots performance with strong harmonies & original songs.

For over 50 years, the Biltmore has been a fixture in the community as both a public house for Vancouverites and a platform for groundbreaking musical performances.

With the revitalization of historic Mount Pleasant, the bar was reopened in 2007 as The Biltmore Cabaret, with a fresh focus to recapture its musical tradition. Drawing from the rich local scene in Vancouver as well as the best in Canadian and international touring acts, The Biltmore Cabaret showcases talent from across a wide spectrum of music and the arts.
