How & Where To Properly Stuff Yourselves Over The Thanksgiving Holiday

8939170933_a9669a9150_o

On the last day of January in 1957, PM John Diefenbaker (such a fun name to say) and the Parliament of Canada proclaimed the 2nd Monday in October to be “a day of General Thanksgiving to Almighty God for the bountiful harvest with which Canada has been blessed.” Whatever your religious bent, it’s a stat holiday, and that’s pretty awesome. So is tryptophan, everybody’s fabled sleep-inducing amino acid (turkey is loaded with the stuff). Some of us might have families to join around a Rockwellian table, but many others either don’t or are so far removed geographically from them that they’re made orphans for the weekend. And to them we say don’t fret. We asked the Scout Community to give us details about what they’ve got going on, and it turns out there’s plenty to do. For starters, you might consider gathering a bunch of friends together to make a Thanksgiving of your own. You could feast on the Irish Heather’s Long Table, relax at home with fresh Reblochon from Les Amis du Fromage (pro tip: cheese has the most tryptophan of any food), organise a wine tasting, tour a brewery, play the long game at West with an eight course tasting menu, or go hard with margaritas at La Mezcaleria. Were you invited to a friend’s house for supper? Check out the chocolate goodies on the list from Beta5 or Thomas Haas. And if you hurry, you might even find a whole turkey available at Culinary Capers. There’s even a gig at The Biltmore! It’s all laid out after the jump.
