Artist Jay Senetchko’s Upcoming Installation To Benefit Sole Food

Industry_Carcass

Over the next two weeks at the Sole Food Street Farm on the corner of Carrall and Pacific, local artist Jay Senetchko will be busily creating his own version of his grandparent’s prairie farmhouse. It will act as an exhibition space for a series of paintings that reflects their lives and involvement in the oil and gas industry. Food, drink and live music will be part of the September 27th opening reception that will include performance and installation art (in addition to the paintings) at 811 Carrall Street, from 7pm to 10pm. Among the evening’s sponsors are Wildebeest, The Morrissey, Ginger62, Pinnacle Vodka, Canadian Club Whiskey, Groslch, and Road 13 (= good times). All proceeds from ticket sales and bar sales (plus 10% of painting sales) will go to Sole Food Street Farms, which transforms vacant urban lands into working farms that produce fruits and vegetables for Vancouver’s farmer’s markets and restaurants. The organisation’s goal is to empower individuals with limited resources by giving them jobs, agricultural training and inclusion in a supportive community of farmers and food lovers. 1. Hi Jay…. I have been following your work online for some time now and I’m extremely impressed and envious of your artistic skills. I felt compelled to contact you in regards to your next series of work representing your grandparents prairie lifestyle. However I’m curious as to which side of your family you will be capturing on canvas. I am very familiar with your maternal grandmother’s side and spent many years visiting their wonderful prairie residence. Sadly it was recently torn down. It no longer belonged to a family member but I would never hesitate to drive by on my trips home to reminisce of my early childhood days. Thank you for honouring a way of life that will very soon be forgotten except for those of us that hold it deep in our hearts. Prairie roots run very deep. I so look forward to your postings of these.. You may recognize by the name that we are related although we have never met as I have spent the last 40 years in the east. Hopefully we may one day.
    My regards Diane
