Vancouver, BC | Mark Taylor, owner of Siena, is pleased to announce that Jessica Howery has accepted the position of Executive Chef at his South Granville neighbourhood restaurant. Both worked together at his previous venture, the award-winning CRU Restaurant. Mark considers her to be one of the top up-and-coming talents on the highly competitive Vancouver culinary scene.

Raised in Pender Harbour, Jessica recognized early that food was her calling. She graduated from VCC’s Culinary Arts program in 2006, earning both the Student of the Year and the Centennial Food Service Award along the way. After graduation she continued to stand out among her peers, earning two silvers and a bronze when she participated in three hot live culinary competitions at BC Food Expos.

Jessica worked as Sous Chef at CRU and is looking forward to meeting the challenges of being Executive Chef at Siena. She has a great team behind her and she loves the neighbourhood restaurant’s focus on what’s new and seasonal, as fresh and local ingredients transform simple Mediterranean dishes into unforgettable experiences.

Chef Howeryhas just introduced a mouthwatering new menu at the restaurant. Guests can choose from starters featuring UBC Farm produce or her preparation of Burrata (with nectarines, baby arugula, raspberry vinaigrette, grilled focaccia) before moving on to Seared Qualicum Bay Scallops & Prawns (roasted fennel, lemon mascarpone risotto) or a pasta selection such as Braised Natural Pork Ravioli (apricot pork reduction and crispy prosciutto) or Goat Cheese Gnudi (sun-dried tomato, grilled artichoke hearts, olives, tomato basil butter). There’s also a three-course menu if you need help narrowing down your options.

Just off busy “Granville Rise” on West 12th, the gently rustic Siena Trattoria yields a bounty of Italian and Mediterranean flavours, perfect before a show at the nearby Stanley Theatre, or after a day of shopping or gallery-hopping. The room, simply furnished and aglow in saffron and burnt siena tones, bustles with a lively local crowd. This very capable kitchen produces a constantly changing selections of modern and traditional regional dishes. On the menu: all-natural free-range meats, sustainable seafood, fresh house-made pasta, a wealth of small and shared plates and well-priced wines from Italy, Spain and Southern France.
