Mental health is not a crime: Vancouver police seeing increase in mental health calls. When I was arrested under the Mental Health Act I was put into solitary confinement because the hospital had no beds. I was put to sleep in the morning only to wake up in the evening, just in time for “lock down”. I was wide awake in a 6 by 6 foot cell and feeling like a caged animal. It was the single worst experience of my lifetime. So…Margaret MacDiarmid…forget “duplicating resources” and build the 24-hour specialized centre now. Many thanks.
