APRONS FOR GLOVES: Watch Episode One Of The “Return To The Restaurant Rumble”

Our friends over at Warren Lane Pictures have just loosed the first episode of their Return To The Restaurant Rumble documentary series for Aprons For Gloves, the boxing tourney pitting Vancouver restaurant staffers against one another for a fantastic cause. It’s a doozy with plenty of story lines that are looking to get resolved on fight night. Some background:

In 2012, the founders of Aprons for Gloves began boxing as a way to unwind and keep in shape. While training at the neighbourhood gym, however, they found something far beyond stress relief and physical fitness.

The gym was filled with local East Side kids who, with the support of the coaches, were learning first-hand about persistence, respect and self-confidence both in and outside of the ring. In Spring of 2012, the gym was shut down, leaving many troubled youth without this safe and constructive environment. With this in mind, the Restaurant Rumble fundraiser was born.

Through Restaurant Rumble, Vancouver’s Gastown and East Side service industry fights to save the East Side Boxing gym. From bartenders to servers, managers and owners, members of the restaurant community form teams, undergo rigorous training and raise funds to box one another in the Restaurant Rumble ring. All proceeds from the fundraising and the event go toward the reopening of the gym and reviving its programs for local youth.

In 2012, the funds raised from Restaurant Rumble helped us secure a new space for the gym and invest in basic boxing equipment, including bags, gloves, and a ring. But we still have a long way to go. We still need to do some renovations which will require permits to be approved by the city before we can officially reopen to the public and kids of the downtown East Side. By supporting your favourite fighter, coming to our event, or simply donating to the cause, you can help us make this a reality.

Fight night is July 24th. Buy your tickets now. The official weigh-ins are press conference go down on July 23rd: Here’s the skinny from the source:
