The GOODS from Mission Hill Family Estate

West Kelowna, BC | Mission Hill Family Estate has been recently recognized in several international wine competitions in 2013, including the International Wine and Spirit Competition and the Decanter World Wine Awards, both in the United Kingdom, as well as the San Francisco International Wine Competition in California.

The recent awards attest to the quality of wines produced in the Okanagan Valley and the efforts of the winery’s vineyard & winemaking teams under the leadership of John Simes, Vice President of Winemaking & Viticulture at Mission Hill Family Estate.

Since 1994, when Mission Hill Family Estate was awarded ‘Best Chardonnay in the World’ at the International Wine & Spirit Competition in the United Kingdom, the winery has received several prestigious awards, including being named ‘Winery of the Year’ at the 2011 InterVin International Wine Awards and ‘Canadian Wine Producer of the Year’ at the 2011 International Wine & Spirit Competition.

In 2013, the portfolio of fine wines from Mission Hill Family Estate has been awarded several top international awards. Highlights of the awards presented to date this year include…

International Wine and Spirit Competition (United Kingdom)

At the 2013 International Wine and Spirit Competition (IWSC) in London, Mission Hill 2011 Reserve Vidal Icewine was the only Canadian wine to win a ‘Gold Outstanding Award’, and Mission Hill 2011 SLC Riesling Icewine received one of only five ‘Gold Medals’ presented to wines from Canada. The 2011 Martin’s Lane Riesling and 2011 Mission Hill Reserve Riesling Icewine also received ‘Silver Medals’ this year.

Founded in 1969, the IWSC is the most prestigious competition of its kind in the world. Its aim is to promote the quality and excellence of the world’s best wines, spirits and liqueurs and it is the only international competition to use a rigorous two stage judging process of professional blind tasting followed by an extensive chemical and microbiological analysis. The IWSC boasts the most highly qualified group of international judges of any wine and spirit competition in the world. A complete listing of awards is available at www.iwsc.net

Decanter World Wine Awards (United Kingdom)

Sponsored by Decanter Magazine, this is generally regarded as the world’s toughest wine competition. Wine experts from 27 countries, including 75 Masters of Wine and 13 Master Sommeliers, gathered in London in April 2013 to taste more than 14,000 wine entries from around the world to which they awarded 229 Gold Medals. Mission Hill 2011 Martin’s Lane Pinot Noir was named ‘Best Canadian Red Wine under 15 euros.’ A complete listing of awards is available at www.decanter.com

San Francisco International Wine Competition, California

The San Francisco International Wine Competition is the largest and most influential wine competition in the United States. The competition is judged by a panel of nationally recognized wine experts with judging based on a blind, consensual procedure, to ensure competitive integrity.
