Have you ever looked at a map of Vancouver and noticed that the outline of the city looks a lot like a thumbs up? Vancouver born-and-raised artist Justin Longoz has taken the map and turned it into the perfect symbol for a city we all love and sometimes just need a reminder about what makes it so great. Justin’s ‘Cool City, Bro’ T-shirt celebrates Vancouver’s laid back vibe that make it one of the coolest cities in the world. The shirt promises to be a great way for Vancouverites to show off their civic pride this summer. The best part? Justin will be donating 100% of the proceeds from the sales of this limited edition tee to Megaphone Magazine, which works to provide homeless and low-income Vancouverites with a voice and an economic opportunity.
We have four of these Cool City, Bro t-shirts to give away to our followers on Twitter & Instagram. To win, simply Tweet or Instagram a photo of your thumb up in front of a local landmark. It could be the VPL (above left), a farmer’s market (above right), at City Hall (below right), or just about anywhere. Use your imagination! Include @ScoutMagazine and the hashtag #coolcitybro, and consider yourself entered. As a grand prize, one winner will also get a unique stylized drawing print of their photo done by Longoz (he’ll also be picking the winners). The contest ends at 11:59pm on July 1st, Canada Day.
This project was produced with the kind assistance of the Vancouver Foundation through a DTES Small Arts Grant, and the shirts were printed locally at The Hive Printing. The tees will be available online at coolcitybro.com; at our booth at the newly revamped Chinatown Night Market (where we’ll be this Saturday and every second Saturday night after that); and at these eight outstanding Vancouver small businesses who have generously agreed to carry the shirts at their stores for only $20:
