Umberto

Umberto | Person | Umberto Menghi is an Italian chef/restaurateur whose cooking and restaurant management made an indelible and positive impact on our culinary scene (many great cooks, servers, chefs, and managers toiled for him at points in their careers, including the incomparable John Bishop). Though he’s still very much in business (despite the recent closure of his flagship Il Giardino eatery), his popularity peaked in the 1980s. He was recently found guilty of being boorish.

Usage: “Umberto is still around? I thought he retired after his big snit at Il Caminetto…”explore-the-lexicon
