It was quite by accident that we stumbled upon West 2nd’s Cafe Kitsune the other day after a shopabout on Granville Island. The unassuming counter-service tea/lunch spot opened last year, featuring good steeps and a few really clean, healthy, quick, sushi-less, fiddly Japanese-inspired bowls amped up by super bright flavours. Case in point: these buckwheat soba noodles hidden underneath a tangle of cilantro, sesame, radishes, carrot, drunken chicken, ginger, soy, chili, and lime ($8.50). Mmm.

‘Japanese Inspired’ means Korean run-the place is nothing special I’ve eaten there in the past but nothing stood out enough to make me want to return.
On the other hand, I did eat there…2 days in a row it was so delicious, fresh and good for me. First day I read the Scout Review and tried the BC Salmon w/ginger soy dressing. YUM!! Reminded me of the healthy salad served at Sakana Bistro in Yaletown. Next day I tried the Drunken Chicken with the ginger soy chili lime dressing. ALSO yum. Considering the options in the area, it’s great value for what I got (a large, fresh, filling salad, prepared swiftly to order) and it’s not cheap n’ uncheerful. I recommend it.
